“…Analysis of the type I IFN gene expression was used in Labeo bata to monitor the immunomodulatory effect of dietary immunostimulants. Fish fed with immunostimulants like chitosan, vitamin C and β‐glucan showed a transient increase in IFN gene expression (Anas et al, 2009; Sahoo et al, 2020; Sajeevan et al, 2009). With the availability of Lates calcarifer cell lines and eventual identification of novel Lates IFNs and other immune genes, a cell culture system coupled with a well‐selected RT‐qPCR panel of immune genes can be developed as a cost‐effective, preliminary in vitro evaluation of novel immunostimulants for the species (Fierro‐Castro et al, 2013).…”

“…Recent research has demonstrated that nucleated fish RBCs can act as mediators of immune responses to viral infections (Nombela et al, 2018). Rainbow trout RBCs exposed to the infectious pancreatic ne- expression (Anas et al, 2009;Sahoo et al, 2020;Sajeevan et al, 2009).…”

“…The method followed the approach of (Parry et al 1965) with some modi cations, as described in detail by (Wangkaghart et al 2021). The myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity present in serum was measured following the method suggested by (Sahoo et al 2020) with slight modi cations, as described in detail by (Mansour et al 2017). The MPO content was measured by absorbance at 450 nm using a microplate reader.…”

“…At the molecular level, the consumption of vitamin C in the diet has been observed to influence the expression of genes associated to the immune system in several species of aquatic animals (Zhang et al, 2022a, b;Sahoo et al, 2020;Cheng et al, 2018b, b;Dawood et al, 2020). Vitamin C has a significant function in regulating the immune defense system and enhancing the defense mechanisms of aquatic animals against infections.…”
