“…For instance, the five Halloween genes ( CYP307A1 , CYP306A1 , CYP302A1 , CYP315A1 and CYP314A1 ) were first identified in Drosophila melanogaster , and their mutations resulted in very low ecdysteroid titer and similar lethal embryonic phenotypes, including disruptions in head involution, dorsal closure and a failure to produce embryonic cuticle 9–11 . In Hemiptera and Lepidoptera, RNA interference (RNAi) and 20E rescue experiments showed that most of the Halloween genes were necessary and played a crucial role in the development of nymphs or larvae 13–18 .
