“…To test the activity of the different sbMC5R polymorphisms, Clon-Q was transiently transfected with sbMC5R-P0, -P1, -P2, -P5 or -P8 and a construct carrying the luciferase gene under the control of a constitutive promoter (Muriach et al, 2008). After 24h, cells were plated in 96-well plates (50,000 cells/well).…”

“…In C57BL/6 mice, the effect of estrogen on the gonadotrope is exerted mainly through the activation of Esr1 in the pituitary and Esr2 can partially offset the absence of Esr1 in gonadotropes in female mice by pituitary-specific Esr1 knockout (Sanchez-Criado et al, 2012). In the sea bass, in situ hybridization studies demonstrated that esr1 was profusely expressed in the main neuroendocrine areas, such as the preoptic area and hypothalamus and also was expressed in the Fshβ and Lhβ cells, suggesting involvement of Esr1 in the modulation of the hypophysiotropic neurons and direct control of gonadotropin hormone synthesis by estrogens (Muriach et al, 2008b). In the present study, the significant positive correlation between esr2a and lhβ in the brain of female G. rarus suggests that the effects of EE2 on the gonadotrope might be exerted mainly through activation esr2a rather than esr1 in mammal species and other teleost species.…”

“…ERα, ERβ and ERγ (Halm et al, 2006). Our recent in situ hybridization studies have demonstrated that ERα is abundantly expressed within the preoptic area, tuberal hypothalamus and inferior hypothalamic lobe, suggesting its involvement in the control of food intake in the sea bass (Muriach et al, 2008). The use of selective estrogen receptor agonist in ovariectomized rats suggests that ERα mediates the attenuating effects of estrogen on food intake and body weight gain, while ERβ has no evident effect on these variables (Roesch, 2006).…”

“…Our results demonstrate that the food intake levels and feed efficiency in 11K-androstenedione treated animals were similar to those observed in the control fish. High doses of 11KT do not activate the ERα receptor (Muriach et al, 2008).…”
