Molecular biology of frozen shoulder-induced limitation of shoulder joint movements

Abstract: Frozen shoulder is a chronic condition characterized by pain in the shoulder and restriction of movements in all directions. Some patients are left with long-term limitation of shoulder joint activity with various severities, which results in reduced quality of life. Currently, there is a paucity of literature on the molecular biology of frozen shoulder, and the molecular biological mechanism for periarthritis-induced limitation of shoulder joint movements remains unclear. Research in this field is focused on … Show more

“…Frozen shoulder (FS) is one of the most common disorders of the joint diseases. [13] It mainly manifests with shoulder pain and motion limitation. [4–6] It has been reported that this condition can affect 2% to 5% of the general population, mostly among the female population between 40 and 65 years old.…”

“…Adhesive capsulitis represents the most common musculoskeletal condition of shoulder pain and dysfunction [1,2]. This condition is also called "frozen shoulder" due to its clinical and pathophysiological manifestations; indeed, adhesive capsulitis is characterized by a pathophysiological course from capsular inflammation to fibrosis that is characterized by a clinical progression from severe pain symptoms to an important reduction in the range of motion (RoM) [3][4][5][6]. Based on these clinical and pathophysiological manifestations, physiotherapy treatment can play an important role in addressing the issue [7].…”
