Molecular Assembly with Axial Cyanato Ligands and Paddlewheel Tetracarboxylatodiruthenium(II,III) Fragments

Abstract: Homo and heteropolymetallic chains constructed with [Ru2(μ‐O2CR)4]+ building blocks and OCN– and [Ag(OCN)2]– connectors are described. In the complexes [Ru2{μ‐O2CC(Me)=CHEt}4(OCN)]n (1) and {[Ru2(μ‐O2CMe)4][Ag(OCN)2]}n (2) an infrequent μ1,1‐O coordination mode of the OCN– ligand is observed. In addition, the formation of a Ag–OCN bond instead of the Ag–NCO coordination mode, which is more usual, is noteworthy in complex 2. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. “…The structural, electrochemical, and spectroscopic properties of numerous diruthenium complexes with a Ru 2 5+ core and a paddle-wheel structure have been reported in the literature since the first synthesis and physical characterization of Ru 2 (OAc) 4 Cl (OAc = acetate anion) by Stephenson and Wilkinson in 1966 . The majority of investigated Ru 2 5+ complexes have contained an axially bound chloride anion and are formulated in their neutral form as Ru 2 L 4 Cl or Ru 2 (OAc) x (L) 4‑ x Cl ( x = 1–4) where L is a symmetrical or unsymmetrical anionic bridging ligand. ,,,,,,, ,, …”

“…The AuÁ Á ÁTl polymers [(X 5 C 6 ) 2 Au-Tl(ethylenediamine)] n (X = Cl, F) exhibit interesting vapochromic behaviour with potential applications for sensors, 81 as also shown for [Au 2 Ag 2 (C 6 F 5 ) 4 (2,2 0 -bipyridine) 2 ] n , used to prepare a fibre optic sensor for ethanol, methanol, and acetic acid vapours. 82 Homochiral lanthanide-silver polymers, 83 and paddlewheel [Ru 2 (m-O 2 CMe) 4 ] + units linked by [Ag(OCN) 2 ] À with OCN À ligands in a rare m 1,1 -O coordination mode, 84 have also been described.…”
