Acinetobacter baumannii is an important health care-associated bacterium and a common multidrug-resistant pathogen. The use of antibiotics in the husbandry industry has raised concerns about drug-resistant A. baumannii strains, which may affect humans. This study aimed to investigate the seasonal distribution of A. baumannii in aquatic environments near areas of livestock farming. The geographic distribution, antibiotic resistance characteristic, and DNA fingerprinting genotype of A. baumannii were also studied. The results showed that environmental A. baumannii was prevalent during the summer and autumn. The hotspots for A. baumannii were found at the sampling sites of livestock wastewater channels (21.4%; 3/14) and the tributaries adjacent to livestock farms (15.4%; 2/13). The prevalence of A. baumannii at these locations was significantly higher than those adjacent to the Puzi River. Multidrug-resistant strain of A. baumannii was not found in this study, with only one strain (5%; 1/20) being resistant to tetracycline. Of the isolates that were obtained, 10% (2/20) and 20% (4/20) were found to be intermediately resistant to tetracycline and sulphamethoxazole/trimethoprim, respectively. The genotyping patterns and clustering analysis indicated that enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus sequence polymerase chain reaction (ERIC-PCR) differentiated A. baumannii strains effectively. There were two major clusters that could then be subtyped into 20 A. baumannii strains with 15 profiles. The A. baumannii strains that were isolated from upstream of the Puzi River and livestock wastewater channels were composed of Cluster I. Cluster II only contained isolates from downstream of the Puzi River area. Furthermore, isolates from adjacent sites were shown to have identical profiles (100%). These results suggest that A. baumannii may have spread through free-flowing water in this study. Therefore, we propose that livestock wastewater is one of the sources that contribute to A. baumannii pollution in water bodies. In summary, continuous monitoring of antibiotic pollution in livestock wastewater is required.

Background and objective: Acinetobacter baumannii is pathogenic and multiresistant bacteria that cause nosocomial infection. The aim of this study are diagnosis A. baumannii by using specific bla OXA-51 and 16SrRNA. Methods: out of 150 Acinetobacter species samples were collected from patients in Azadi teaching hospital, Duhok Emergency hospital; and burn Duhok cosmetic and burn hospital from May 2020 to August 2020. The samples were phenotypically diagnosed by bacteriological strategy. Out of 100 samples were selected and by molecular level confirmed as Acinetobacter spp. Results: isolates were revealed as small, pale, and late-lactose fermenter colonies on MacConkey agar appeared as a creamy, opaque, andnon-hemolytic colony on blood agar All suspected isolates, as A. baumannii, were growing at 44ºC. By using the genus-specific bla OXA-51 primer that produced 353 bp amplification band and 75 samples were diagnosed by PCR as A. baumannii by 16S rRNA as a specific primer and showed 150 bp amplicon. 10 samples out of the 75 resembling A. baumannii were identified as a multidrug resistant isolates by method of diffusion. Disc, A. baumannii isolates displayed a high resistance rate of 85% to azithromycin and 80% to imipenem. Moreover, amikacin, meropenem, and gentamycin, Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole, and ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin showed a low level of efficacy against A. baumannii isolates with the resistant rate of 88%, 90%, 90%, and 93% respectively.

Edwardsiella tarda is a pathogen that causes edwardsiellosis in aquatic animals. The emergence of multiple antibiotic‐resistant strains makes antibiotic treatment difficult. This study aimed to investigate the antibiotic susceptibility patterns and the genotypic characterization of E. tarda isolated from cage‐cultured red tilapia in Thailand. A total of 30 isolates were identified as E. tarda using biochemical and molecular analysis. The disc diffusion method for testing antibiotic susceptibility showed all the isolates were resistant to colistin sulphate and oxolinic acid. High levels of resistance to amoxicillin, ampicillin, ceftazidime, oxytetracycline and sulphamethoxazole/trimethoprim were observed as well. The multiple antibiotic resistance index ranged from 0.25 to 0.92, indicating that these isolates had been exposed to high risk sources of contamination where antibiotics were commonly used. All the isolates carried the blaTEM gene based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The tetA and sul3 genes were detected in 90% (27/30) and 26.7% (8/30) of the isolates respectively. Nine different genetic groups of isolates were obtained using enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus polymerase chain reaction (ERIC‐PCR). A correlation between genetic types and multiple antibiotic‐resistant patterns was found. These results highlight the potential risks of multiple antibiotic‐resistant isolates for humans and the environment.
