Mold design for the assembly injection molding of a solid housing with integrated dynamic seal

Abstract: Currently, it is not state‐of‐the‐art to mold a hard housing with integrated dynamic seal, without any postprocessing. Usually, separately processed rubber seals need to be mounted into the housing in an additional assembly step, which is time‐consuming and costly. The article deals with the mold design for the efficient manufacturing of a hard housing with an integrated dynamic soft seal, as well as the influence of processing parameters in assembly injection molding on the bonding strength, soft component pr… Show more

“…When the amount of lubricating oil leakage exceeds the volume that the system can compensate, it will cause an unbalanced pressure inside and outside the tool, and the drilling fluid will penetrate the seals, contaminate the internal environment. [3][4][5] Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the sealing performance of the wellbore trajectory control tool, calculate the amount of lubricating oil leakage, determine the continues working time of the tool, and to guide the lubricant replenished.…”

“…Therefore, the optimization of the process parameters is recognized to be more feasible and efficient. Frick and Spadaro presented one mold design method with efficient manufacturing and studied the influence of processing parameters in assembly injection molding on the bonding strength, soft component properties. Su and Gilchrist discovered that the demolding force decreased as mold temperature increased and as the part substrate thickness also increased.…”
