Moisture absorption rates via capillary suction within packed beds – The effect of material and fluid properties with implications for heap leaching operations
“…3,4 The principle behind these devices is based on the capillary action of uids, 5 where uids move in the paper channel due to the attraction between the uid and paper bres. [6][7][8] The distance travelled by the uid is proportional to the analyte concentration in the sample, allowing for quantitative analysis. 9,10 The simplicity and accessibility of these devices make them ideal for use in resourcelimited settings where traditional laboratory equipment and methods may not be feasible.…”
We show the working of a paper-based chemometer device (PCD). Starch triiodide coated on the channel discolours upon the addition of α-amylase. The discoloured distance is directly proportional to the concentration of α-amylase.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
