“…To each well, 100 ,lI of 0.01% sodium dodecyl sulfate solution was added in serum-free medium at 37°C for 20 to 30 min. Schneider's medium (GIBCO, Ltd, Paisley, Scotland) supplemented with 30% fetal calf serum and L-glutamine was added (100 RI per well), and the cultures were incubated at 28°C for another 72 h. The cultures in three to six replicates were then pulsed with 1 p.Ci of [3H]thymidine (26 Ci/nmol; Radiochemical Center, Amersham, United Kingdom) per well, and the incorporation of radioactivity by viable parasites after 18 h of further culturing was determined as described above.…”

“…A synergistic effect of MDP on many therapeutic agents is well known and its synergy with tuftsin was also checked. Preliminary information on the activity of a mixture of MDP and tuftsin was published in 1993 [10]. Tests performed on macrophage bovine teat revealed that the application of a mixture of tuftsin and MDP intensified the macrophage inhibition effect on intracellular replication of Brucella abortus type 2308.…”
