Modulation of Electron Injection in CdSe−TiO2System through Medium Alkalinity

Abstract: Charge injection from excited CdSe quantum dots into nanostructured TiO(2) film can be modulated by varying solution pH. At increasing solution pH, the conduction band of TiO(2) shifts 59 mV/pH unit to a more negative potential, thereby decreasing the driving force and thus decreasing the rate of nonradiative electron transfer from excited CdSe. The emission yield and the average emission lifetime increase with increasing pH, thus providing a way to monitor the variation in medium pH.

“…Soft Lewis acidic Ag NPs were used as a starting material that is labile to chemical transformation to synthesize metal–semiconductor HNs, an important combination due to the strong interfacial electromagnetic coupling for enhancing the efficiency of light harvesting . Ag NPs with relatively large size distribution, denoted as c‐Ag NPs, were initially synthesized by using citrate as both surface ligands and reductants (Figure S1a, Supporting Information).…”

“…35 The attachment process of the two semiconductors, the length of the chain of the linker molecule (in case of linker assisted attachment process), the chemical environment of the heterostructure like pH of the medium, organic passivation, thermal annealing additionally can affect the rate of electron transfer. 36 In ref [20], CdS nanocrystals were synthesized using a solvothermal reaction involving a mixture of two solvents. The CdS nanocrystals exhibit a varying mix of the zinc blende and wurtzite phases by changing the volume ratio of the solvents.…”
