Modulation of cytotoxic amyloid fibrillation and mitochondrial damage of α-synuclein by catechols mediated conformational changes

Abstract: The interplay between α-synuclein (α-syn) and catechols plays a central role in Parkinson’s disease. This may be related to the modulating effects of catechols on the various aspects of α-syn fibrillization. Some of these effects may be attributed to the membrane-binding properties of the protein. In this work, we compare the effect of some catechols, including dopamine, epinephrine, DOPAL, and levodopa in micromolar concentrations, on the in vitro cytotoxicity of α-syn fibrils on human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y c… Show more

“…Although bone possesses self-regeneration ability, in some cases, such as severe injury and substantial bone loss, difficult and costly treatments are necessary to repair the defect, posing a significant challenge in modern medicine. 1–4 The estimated treatment cost for osteoporosis-related fractures in Europe is projected to rise from 31.7 to 76.7 billion euros by 2050. 5 Previously, autografts have been recognized as the gold standard treatment, despite associated problems such as limited tissue supply, infection, immune rejection, and donor-site complications.…”
