“…Haddad et al [31] reported that we must distinguish between bearing-related complications after hip resurfacing and taper/trunnion corrosion-related complications after large-diameter MoM hip replacement. There are also some articles about modular taper junction corrosion and failure of THA [16,17]. We agree and believe that our present finding suggesting a lack of correlation between acetabular cup inclination and pseudotumor presence supports their opinion.…”

“…The remaining six joint-expansion cases that were MRI negative should also be followed up carefully, as should the small cystic pattern case that was MRI negative but ultrasonography positive, to evaluate changes in the lesions over time. Some reports have also noted that joint effusion is commonly associated with an ALTR [16] or an early inflammatory reaction to metal debris [25].…”

“…When other causes that may contribute to symptoms are excluded or in the case there is a history of metal sensitivity, the possibility of ARMD should be considered, both in the pre-operative diagnostic algorithm as well as the individualized management plan for the patient [23]. This does not only apply in MoM THA, as metal hypersensitivity reaction may arise from multialloy head-neck modular couplings.…”

“…The potential benefits of these modifications are welcome, and other authors have presented sound rationale and in vitro evidence for the new generation implant [11,13,14]. However, even theoretically sound design changes that received regulatory approval may occasionally be prone to unexpected adverse events that become apparent only after unrestricted clinical use, as illustrated by a number of recent examples including symptomatic taper corrosion and catastrophic modular neck failures [1,10]. The reported early outcomes with the newer generation of the metaphyseal-fitting stem studied by Kim et [2,6,12], and the currently available design may indeed provide additional benefits in terms of bone conservation, patient-reported outcomes, and/or superior ease of use for the surgeon.…”
