Modular DC‐DC converter with reduced current ripple and low voltage stress suitable for high voltage applications

Abstract: In this paper, a couple inductor‐based dc‐dc boost converter with extensible capability is presented. In the proposed converter, attaching extensions to input section alleviates input current ripple. Furthermore, the current sharing performance between different phases operates beneficially by expanding optimized boost converters, especially when a partial inequality exists among different switches' duty cycles and leakage inductances. The voltage conversion ratio of the proposed converter is also additionally… Show more

“…However, the high number of switches, complex control, and high cost are among the disadvantages of these converters [15]. Using a voltage multiplier circuit in low-frequency rectifiers is a solution for increasing the output voltage [26], [27]. Applying this technique to high-frequency, isolated DC-DC converters for high-voltage applications (up to a few kV), such as traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTA), causes transmission wave amplifiers.…”

“…erefore, a high cost and complexity and also low efficiency are resulted. e magnetic coupling technique for voltage lifting can be implemented by transformers or coupled inductors [11,12]. Transformer-based DC-DC converters use isolated or built-in transformers for achieving electrical isolation.…”

“…In [38], a high step-up three-port converter using CI has been presented which performs high input current ripple. To minimize the input current ripple, [39] utilized the interleaving technique in its modular structure. However, using several CIs in this converter increases its volume.…”
