The direction and orientation of prehistoric graves in Indonesia have not been widely studied. Some research on prehistoric graves does not explain the direction and orientation in detail. This research on the direction and orientation of prehistoric tombs in the North Coast of Java aims to answer the question of why the direction towards the prehistoric graves in the North Coast area of Rembang Regency, Central Java Province is to the Northeast -Southwest and the direction towards the prehistoric graves in the North Coast area of Sampang Regency, Madura to the Northwest -Southeast. The two directions facing the grave above in Indonesia are rarely found and there has been no research on this case. The method applied in this study is to measure azimuthally using a compass to find out how many degrees the position of the grave is either (North to East) for graves in Rembang Regency and (North to West) for graves in Sampang Regency. The results of the measurement of the direction facing the North Coast area of Rembang N 15°-25° E and N 10°-45°W are the direction facing the grave in the North Coast area of Sampang Regency. Both directions above are oriented towards the Java Sea. The two directions above meet at a point that is concluded as the location of the origin of the buried people so that when they die their spirits will return to their place of origin.

Gunungwingko is an archaeological site located in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Province. This site was used from 0 AD to 17th century. In 1978 excavation, there were 19 isolated teeth found in excavation box T.P. Geo. IV from 170 – 220 cm in depth. The objective of this research is to identify Minimum Number Individual (MNI), and also their influences to health status and cultural point of view. The method being used for this research is bioarchaeological method with macroscopic analysis. We concluded that the MNI is four individuals based on four third left maxillary molars. Dental diseases such as dental attrition, dental caries, enamel hypoplasia, chipped tooth, and buccal pit can be observed in some of the teeth. Moreover, cultural influences also can be found in some of the teeth in form of dental modification (pangur) and betel chewing. One of the teeth showed evidence of multiple dental modification which possibly happened because of adulthood ceremonial and matrimonial/death ceremonial.

Abstrak. Tembikar atau sering disebut gerabah adalah salah satu teknologi yang berkembang pada masa prasejarah (neolitik) hingga sekarang. Tradisi teknologi neolitik itu salah satu di antaranya ditemukan di Desa Balong Mulyo, Kecamatan Kragan, di kawasan pantai utara Kabupaten Rembang, Provinsi Jawa Tengah. Tembikar yang menjadi salah satu penanda situssitus prasejarah-protosejarah banyak ditemukan di situs-situs Binangun, Leran, Plawangan, dan Tanjungan di kawasan pantai utara Kabupaten Rembang. Tembikar merupakan artefak yang memiliki peran penting dalam kehidupan manusia prasejarah. Permasalahannya adalah apakah terdapat hubungan antara manusia masa lampau dan lingkungannya dalam pengambilan sumber bahan tembikar. Banyak informasi yang dapat diketahui dari penelitian artefak tembikar, antara lain tentang teknologi, bahan baku dan distribusi. Adapun salah satu cara atau teknik dalam penelitian artefak tembikar yaitu analisis petrografi. Dengan membandingkan hasil analisis petrografis antara tembikar temuan dari hasil penelitian dan tembikar dari Balong Mulyo dapat diketahui ada atau tidak adanya kesamaan bahan baku tembikar. Inilah salah satu manfaat penerapan kajian petrografi dalam penelitian arkeologi. Hasil analisis petrografis ini diketahui bahwa tembikar Situs Binangun, Leran, dan Plawangan memiliki nilai indeks kedekatan yang tinggi dengan tembikar Balong Mulyo. Selain itu, hasil analisis petrografi juga dapat menginformasikan tentang bagaimana manusia memanfaatkan sumberdaya alam lingkungannya.
