Modified T-type topology of three-phase multi-level inverter for photovoltaic systems

Abstract: In this article, a three-phase multilevel neutral-point-clamped inverter with a modified t-type structure of switches is proposed. A pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme of the proposed inverter is also developed. The proposed topology of the multilevel inverter has the advantage of being simple, on the one hand since it does contain only semiconductors in reduced number (corresponding to the number of required voltage levels), and no other components such as switching or flying capacitors, and on the other han… Show more

“…A wide range of industrial applications have benefited from the development of multilevel inverters (MLIs) in recent years [6], [7] including active power filtering, motor drive applications, distributed generation systems, FACTS applications, UPS systems, induction heating applications, and many more [8], [9]. MLIs have several advantages over traditional two-level inverters, including lower total harmonic distortion (THD), reduced voltage stress in power switches, output filters are smaller, and immunity to electromagnetic interference [10], [11].…”

“…The control circuit used a modified absolute sinusoidal pulse width modulation approach, and the output voltage and current's THD values were 3.6% and 0.84%, respectively. Ouchatti et al [10], developed an 8-PV cell DC source and 27-switches are utilized to create a 9-level three-phase inverter using a modified hybrid multilevel PWM approach. In 2022 [11], a 15-level inverter was created using 3-DC sources and 7-switches with 3-diodes.…”

“…The T-type converter is an advanced topology possessing the advantages of low conduction losses, high efficiency, a relatively low number of switches and fault tolerance. A single-phase T-type converter is based on a full H-bridge converter connected to an auxiliary bidirectional switch combination, giving the converter a four-quadrant functioning possibility (Ceglia et al, 2006;Ouchatti et al, 2022).…”
