Modified Sierpinski square fractal antenna covering ultra‐wide band application with band notch characteristics

Abstract: A microstrip line feed modified Sierpinski square fractal antenna for ultra-wide band (UWB) with band notch characteristics is presented. UWB operation (3.1-10.6 GHz) is achieved by increasing the numbers of iteration and rectangular grooved ground plane. The band rejection characteristic is realised by a ∩ -slot in the feed line. The proposed antenna has a volume 34 × 34 × 1.6 mm 3 with a square shape structure and shows omnidirectional radiation patterns. The measurement results indicate that the antenna off… Show more

“…So there is a need to ensure that the UWB communication does not affect operations in these bands due to interference. To accomplish this, various techniques have been adopted such as use of band‐notched UWB antennas . The available solutions of designing a band‐notched UWB antenna have several disadvantages like use of costly antenna substrates, large antenna dimensions, and complex antenna geometry .…”

“…Chu et al, have proposed two wideband antennas with a shared aperture with band notch characteristics in 820‐1200 MHz band. An inverted U‐shaped slot is implemented on the feed line for obtaining notch characteristics in . Ghobadi et al, have proposed two shorted quarter wavelength L‐shaped stubs connected to ground plane via holes for generating frequency notch performance.…”

“…Sierpinski carpet fractal is a plane fractal falling in the category of deterministic fractals, which was first described by Waclaw Sierpinski as a generalized form of cantor set in two dimensions. Similarly, a modified square patch Sierpinski fractal antenna fed with microstrip-line is reported for ultra-wide band (UWB) with band notch characteristics [11]. The realization of band rejection is achieved in the said design by using an ∩-slot in the feed line.…”
