Modified Pechini Synthesis of Oxide Powders and Thin Films

Abstract: The modified Pechini method has become one of the most popular synthesis methods for complex oxide materials due to its simplicity and versatility. The method can be applied to synthesize nano-crystalline powders, bulk materials as well as oxide thin films. Here, we present a comprehensive review of the method with focus on the chemistry through the three stages of the process; preparation of stable aqueous solution, poly-esterification to form a solid polymeric resin and finally decomposition/combustion of th… Show more

“…Formation of intermediate carbonates occurs as a result of chemisorption of CO 2 , a volatile product from decomposition of organics, by a fraction of metal oxides. This behavior was clearly observed in Figure 2 b as a long tail after the last peak of polymeric matrix decomposition [ 64 , 65 , 66 ].…”

“…The TiO 2 used was high-purity and analytical grade (Merck, reference 1008081000). The CuO nanoparticles were synthesized from copper acetate ((CH 3 COO) 2 Cu·H 2 O) using the modified Pechini method [40] (Figure 1). To evaluate the cementitious properties, the pastes and mortars were prepared.…”

“…The perovskite powders were synthesized by a Pechini-derived method [28,29] LSM powders (with or without Mg or Al dopant) were first prepared by the P1 method. The mixture of nitrate salts and CA (CA:M = 1.5:1) was heated to 60 °C and stirred for 10 min.…”

“…Liquid phase Pechini-methods are particularly relevant for preparing either ceramic nanopowders or thin films with uniform composition and microstructure, even for complex material formulations [28,29]. For each given composition, the structure, microstructure and surface properties of the powders are key-parameters determining their reactivity for both sintering and redox reactions.…”
