“…Total RNA (1 mg) from each sample was subject to reverse transcription with oligo(dT) primers by PCR kit according to manufacturer's instruction. The synthesized cDNA was used for PCR amplification with the following primers 28,29) : MMP-9, 5Ј-gcacgacgtcttccagtacc-3Ј (For), 5Ј-tcaactcactccgggaactc-3Ј (Rev); MMP-2, 5Ј-ggactatgaccgggataagaaatatg-3Ј (For), 5Ј-gggcaccttctgaatttcca-3Ј (Rev); hypoxanthine-guanine phosophoribosyltransferase (HPRT): 5Ј-gttggatacaggccagactttgttg-3Ј (For), 5Ј-gattcaacttgcgctcatcttaggc-3Ј (Rev). cDNAs were amplified for 30 cycles and each PCR reaction condition was as follows: preparation step at 94°C for 5 min, denaturing step at 94°C for 30 s, annealing step at 56°C for 30 s, and polymerization step at 72°C for 30 s. PCR products were analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis.…”

“…Indeed, studies by our group and others have demonstrated that electrical stimulation activates the PI3K-Akt pathway, resulting in the process of wound healing (10) and amelioration of hyperglycemia (11,12). We have also shown that, together with heat shock, which elevates the level of the heat shock protein Hsp72, mild electrical stimulation (MES) 2 attenuates hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury in mice (13)(14)(15), ameliorates the diabetic phenotype and protects pancreatic ␤-cells in a diabetes mouse model (11,16), reduces inflammatory markers in healthy male subjects (17), and decreases proteinuria and renal inflammation in an Alport syndrome mouse model (18). In the latter disease model, MES was shown to activate not only the PI3K-Akt pathway but also the p38 MAPK signaling pathway (18).…”

“…Ikeda A et al [10] found serum ALT levels significantly less in rat pre-transplanted liver grafts preserved in the University of Wisconsin (UW) solution containing 5% CO (CO-UW solution) group for 21 hours, than preserved in the control UW group one in Lewis rats. Oba M et al [11] suppressed the hepatic IRinduced release of serum ALT levels three-fold, after heat shock (HS) (42 degrees C) and/or mild electrical stimulation (MES) (12V) for 20min than sham ones in mice. Kim KH et al [12] counted elevated ALT levels in the short-term period (3 hours) in a model of orthotopic rat liver transplantation pretreated 4 days before graft harvesting with interferon regulatory factor-1 (IRF-1) than uninfected control liver graft donors.…”
