Graphene research continues to advance into many territories, and in this study, an exhaustive analysis of the fabrication and performance of zeolite/graphene composites is attempted for the first time. Apart from zeolite/graphene applications, the potential of graphene composites with other materials has been presented. Future perspectives and challenges have been presented extensively to enable researchers to explore the synergy of graphene composites for various unexplored applications. Carbon atoms are arranged in a two-dimensional plate-like pattern to produce the hexagonal network-shaped material known as graphene, which has a material thickness of one atom. Zeolites are frequently employed widely as heterogeneous catalysts in a variety of chemical industries due to their enormous surface area and constant pore size. Recently, scientists have worked to better understand how graphene and zeolite work together as a composite catalyst. The removal of dyes, the adsorption of heavy metal ions, electrochemical capacitors and sensors, oil purification, microbial fuel cells, and reverse osmosis membranes were among the potential uses for zeolite/graphene oxide composites that were investigated in earlier studies. The aforementioned applications show how versatile zeolite/graphene oxide composites are. In addition to summarizing earlier studies on the techniques for synthesizing graphene with common zeolites, this study has also taken historical data to demonstrate improvements in the use of zeolite/graphene composites in diverse industrial applications. There is, nevertheless, a lot of potential for the study of zeolite/graphene composites because the bulk of applications use zeolites and graphene oxide as distinct components. Again, this study has explored the composite potential of graphene with other materials in energy storage, fuel cracking and adsorption applications. This study provides a comprehensive review of the synergistic benefits of graphene composites and its future opportunities and challenges.

Graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) are efficient and low-cost adsorbent carbon-based materials for removing Pb(II) ions from wastewater. This study focuses on the synthesizing GO and rGO by green methods with Tour approach and reduction with L-ascorbic acid, respectively and were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The prepared GO and rGO were used to adsorb Pb(II) ions from aqueous solutions. From the adsorption isotherms, the maximum adsorption capacities of Pb(II) ions on GO and rGO calculated from the Langmuir (117.6 mg/g) and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherms (138.5 mg/g), respectively, higher than reported studies in the literature. By thermodynamic investigation, it was found that the adsorption of Pb(II) ions on GO and rGO was spontaneous and exothermic.

Dyes are pollutants resulted from the textile, paper, and leather industries, are considered sources of environmental contamination. This study is devoted to utilize a low-cost modified local natural source, for removing the Malachite Green cationic dye (MG) from aqueous solution. Zeolite-A (ZA) was prepared in a good Crystallinity via hydrothermal heating from local kaolin at mild conditions. The mineralogical, structural, and chemical properties of both, the precursor rock and ZA that formed were identified via X-ray Diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) techniques. To identify the impact of operational parameters, a series of adsorption studies were performed, such as initial concentration, pH, adsorbent dose, initial dyes concentration, contact time, ionic strength and temperature on the complete dye removal. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔH, ΔS and ΔG) of adsorption systems were also determined and evaluated. The resulting degrees of dye removal were 59-86.5% for initial dye concentration of 10 mg/L and for ZA loadings of 0.01-1.00 g. It was found that the adsorption of MG on ZA followed a pseudo-second order model, the data proved well fitted to the Langmuir isotherm model and thermodynamic studies showed that the dye adsorption onto ZA is a spontaneous and endothermic.
