Modified Hasson technique versus Veress technique: a comparative study

Abstract: Background: There are two techniques of port placement for laparoscopy, Veress and Hasson. Both have their own advantages of disadvantages. Plenty of new modifications of these techniques have been tried to reduce the risks. We modified Hasson’s technique and evaluated whether the technique is better than the standard Veress technique. Methods: A retrospective analysis was carried out in the Department of General Surgery, Al Azhar Medical College Hospital, India from January 2013 to December 2018.Results: There… Show more

“…Patients were positioned at a 60-degree angle opposite to the side being operated on. An incision of 1 cm was made on the pararectal line, and access to the peritoneum was obtained according to Hasson’s technique [ 35 ]. Pneumoperitoneum was obtained by injecting CO 2 gas until the pressure reached 14 mmHg.…”

“…These can be placed in the ventral part of the abdomen or paralumbar fossa with two or three suitably triangulated access portals (Figure 5A) (Milovancev & Townsend, 2015;Monteiro et al, 2021). At the discretion of the surgical team, pneumoperitoneum can be created using a Veress needle, either prior to the insertion of the first trocar or just after the trocar is directly inserted (George et al, 2019;Abass et al, 2020). This direct trocar insertion procedure is similar to that of Kaistha et al (2019).…”

“…In this study, to know such procedural cosmetic outcomes of two such main surgical techniques that are widely used in achieving better pneumoperitoneum, HT and VNT were studied and discussed in detail. 1,[3][4][5][6][7]9,11,14,[18][19][20][21] We have also compared and evaluated the cosmetic outcome of primary port insertion at the umbilicus in both the techniques.…”
