Modified calcination conditions of rare alkali metal Rb-containing muscovite (KAl2[AlSi3O10](OH)2)

Abstract: Muscovite mineral was roasted in different conditions. Rubidium leaching rate was a standard to examine the impact of various factors on calcination effect, including the agent types, roasting time, mass ratio, and roasting temperature. The results indicate that the best agent is the combination of sodium chloride and calcium chloride, and its mass ratio of muscovite/NaCl/CaCl 2 is 1.00:0.25:0.25. Calcined at 850°C for 30 min, the rubidium leaching rate is up to 90.12 %. The reaction of muscovite ore with the … Show more

“…In addition, Rb is ubiquitous in potassium minerals, such as carnallite, mica, and potassium feldspar. 7 Geologically, the latter two minerals are found often together in granitic rocks. 8 Minor amounts of Rb are reported in brines, kaolin clay waste, boron clay waste, gold waste, and jarosite.…”

“…Lepidolite ((K,Rb)Li 2 AlSi 4 O 10 F 2 ) and pollucite (Cs 2 Al 2 Si 4 O 12 ) are considered to be the known principal sources of Rb. In addition, Rb is ubiquitous in potassium minerals, such as carnallite, mica, and potassium feldspar . Geologically, the latter two minerals are found often together in granitic rocks .…”
