Modification of Titanium Isopropoxide with Aromatic Aldoximes

Abstract: Dimeric [Ti(OiPr)2(benzaldoximate)2]2 was obtained upon reaction of titanium isopropoxide with two molar equivalents of benzaldehyde (E)‐ or (Z)‐oxime or m‐anisaldoxime. Two isomers were formed differing by the mutual orientation of the oximate ligands. Reaction with perillaldoxime or trans‐cinnamaldoxime resulted in the corresponding derivatives with functional ligands. The degree of substitution was higher when o‐ or p‐anisaldoxime were employed in the same molar ratio, and dimeric Ti2(OiPr)3(o‐anisaldoximat… Show more

“…4. The X-ray diffraction structure confirms a dihapto κ 2 NO coordination of the oximato unit to the titanium centre, which is the usual coordination mode found for other titanium(IV) oximato derivatives [52,5557,59,62,81]. N, O and C atoms of the ON=C unit are coplanar, and the plane that contained them bisects the angle Cl(2)-Ti-Cl(3) along the Ti-Cp centroid vector.…”

“…N, O and C atoms of the ON=C unit are coplanar, and the plane that contained them bisects the angle Cl(2)-Ti-Cl(3) along the Ti-Cp centroid vector. Ti-N and Ti-O bond distances are similar to those observed in oximato titanium alkoxide [56,57,59,62] or cyclopentadienyl titanium(IV) hydroxylaminato compounds [82]. …”

“…side on in those in literature. 57,58 The strong trans effect of μ2-O 2− ligand results in the elongation of the Ti-Omethoxy bonds [2.179(2) Å]. The two symmetry related μ3-O 2− atoms in the two [Ti3-μ3-O] structural units are located 0.489 (5) Å above the plane defined by the three titanium atoms.…”

“…This coordination of SA is in contrast to titanium alkoxide derivatives with aliphatic or aromatic aldoximate ligands without the OH group in ß-position, where the oximate NO group is always side-on coordinated to the same titanium atom. Representative examples with aromatic oximate ligands are Ti 2 (Oi-Pr) 4 (benzaldoximate) 4 and Ti 2 (Oi-Pr) 4 (anisaldoximate) 4 [14].…”
