“…In order to improve the adsorption of macroporous polymeric adsorbents for hydrophilic organic compounds, chemical modification is a typical method and it is often adopted by introducing some special functional groups on the matrix of the adsorbent [19][20][21][22]. These added functional groups modify the chemical composition of the adsorbent surface and hence improve the adsorption behaviors [23][24][25]. Carbonyl groups are shown to be most efficient functional groups for improving the adsorption behaviors of the polymeric adsorbents [20,26,27].…”

“…The Infrared spectra of SG-PS-NH 2 and SG-PS-azo-SA are shown in Fig. 1b, and it displayed the presence of vibrational bands characteristic of salicyclic acid group, the peak at 1746 cm -1 was caused by the stretching vibrations of C=O bonds, the peak at 1174 cm -1 by the bending vibrations of ArO-H [12][13][14]. By comparison with the spectrum of SG-PS-NH 2 , the characteristic bands at 1104 cm -1 of asymmetric stretching vibration of Si-O-Si almost disappeared, indicating that composite spheres form bonds with other substances resulting in the relative decrease in the intensity of bands of silica gel.…”

“…Salicylic acid has often been chosen in grating on polymeric adsorbents. S. Boussetta et al [12][13] made salicylic acid and their derivatives anchored on poly (styrene-co-divinylbenzene) resin and membrane via a diazo bridge, and found the adsorption capacities of these new materials for iron ions could reach 11.6 mg g -1 and 13.4 mg g -1…”
