Modification of poly(butylene succinate) with peroxide: Crosslinking, physical and thermal properties, and biodegradation

Abstract: Prior to curing, we evaluated thermal stability of poly(butylene succinate) (PBS). Above 170°C, PBS was severely degraded and the degradation could not be successfully stabilized by an antioxidant. PBS was crosslinked effectively by DCP at 150°C, and the gel fraction was increased as DCP content increased. The major structure of crosslinked PBS is supposed to consist of an ester and an aliphatic group. The tensile strength and elongation of PBS were improved with increasing content of DCP, but tear strength wa… Show more

“…The structures of wood flour reinforced poly(butylene succinate) composites were determined by 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR spectra and the distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer (DEPT) methods by a 250-MHz Bruker AC 250 spectrometer at 25°C. A sample concentration of 3 wt% in CDCl 3 with tetramethylsilane was used as the internal reference.…”

“…Recently, poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) has received extensively attentions, either in polymer and co-polymer [1][2][3][4][5], or blending with other polymer [6,7]. In order to improve the physical properties of PBS, some methods have been reported such as adding nano-clay [8][9][10], via crosslinking reaction [11][12][13], and so on.…”

“…EPO is produced from esters of glycerol in palm oil containing different saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. It offers many advantages in chemical industries field because it is derived from renewable, biodegradable and abundant raw materials [9,[16][17][18]. The incorporation of organoclays in the polymer to produce a nanocomposite is another means to modify the property balance of a material.…”

“…The morphologies and phase behaviors of polylactic acid /PBS blend have been investigated by Park et al [14], while the structures and properties of this blend were studied by Yokohara et al [15]. Jin et al reported that physical, thermal properties and biodegradation of PBS were evaluated by modification it with peroxide [16].…”
