Modification of Biomass-Derived Nanoporous Carbon with Nickel Oxide Nanoparticles for Supercapacitor Application

Abstract: Supercapacitors are one of the promising devices for the accumulation and storage of electrical energy. The purpose of this study is to develop a synthesis and modification method of carbon material to improve the electrochemical characteristics of a supercapacitor. In the proposed study, by varying the sequence and parameters of the processes of carbonization, mechanoactivation and thermochemical activation, the conditions for obtaining nanoporous carbon with a specific surface area of 2200 (±50) m2/g from wa… Show more

“…Walnut shell-derived porous activated carbon and its modification with 0.005 M NiO (e.g., WS-dAC/NiO-0.005) demonstrated a significant specific capacitance of 205 F g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 . Still, the cyclic stability of the prepared sample was tested over a low range of up to 1000 cycles and revealed a 98% capacitance retention [93]. As a result, NiO did not demonstrate effective modification of activated porous carbon to achieve the reasonable specific capacitance of the carbon produced from walnut shells.…”

“…There are various attempts to achieve excellent supercapacitor performances through the combination of metal oxides and carbon-based oxides. [311][312][313] Chen et al reported Ni(OH) 2 -MnO 2 -rGO ternary hybrid sphere powders using a one-step hydrothermal method, as shown in Fig. 12d.…”
