Modification of a nitrocellulose membrane with nanofibers for sensitivity enhancement in lateral flow test strips

Abstract: We constructed a new type of ICT strip by replacing the conventional nitrocellulose membrane with an electrospin-coated nitrocellulose (ENC) fibrous membrane, and the ICT strip could obtain an HCG detection limit of 0.22 mIU mL−1, and an LH detection limit of 0.36 mIU mL−1.

“…The authors achieved an eight-fold enhancement in the LOD for human chorionic gonadotropin measurement compared to the conventional LFA [ 28 ]. Other published works in this field employed cellulose fibers as the sample pad, creating a wall before the test line region onto the nitrocellulose film, and the use of chitosan and nanofiber on nitrocellulose membrane [ 29 , 50 , 51 ]. All these approaches can slow the flow rate and modify the sensitivity of recognition from one to multiple folds in LFA.…”

“…[69][70][71] Second, they can be used in macroscopic flow-through systems. [72][73][74][75] Finally, EMs can be used as parts of LFA [76][77][78][79][80][81] or microfluidic devices. [82][83][84][85][86][87] The fundamental difference between these two options is the mechanism of liquid movement.…”

“…[7][8][9][10][11] Energetic polymer material is an important binder as well as energetic component, which has been widely used in propellants, explosives and pyrotechnics. [12][13][14][15][16] Recently, Laser ignition of energetic materials and propellants has gradually attracted the attention of researchers. [17,18] However, most of the energetic polymers, such as nitrocellulose (NC) and energetic thermoplastic elastomer (ETPE), show poor laser ignition and combustion efficiency due to their molecular constitution.…”
