Modification and characterization of selected Zambian clays for potential use as photocatalysts
Abstract: Natural materials such as clay are valued for their favorable physical and chemical characteristics on the surface. In this study, the selected Zambian clay materials are immobilized with TiO2 and manganese ions to determine their suitability for use as photocatalysts. SiO2 and Al2O3 oxide composition of Zambian clays was obtained in the range of 35.08-52.63/35.15-52.72 and 13.85-21.73/13.77-21.80, respectively, by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF); while Energy dispersive spectrosc…

“…Oil hydrocarbons are difficult-to-decompose organic pollutants that can seriously affect soil productivity and cause varying degrees of harm to microorganisms, plants and animals in the ecosystem around the source of pollution [5,6]. The intake of petroleum-based substances into the soil caused a sharp increase in the organic carbon content in the soil, which led to an imbalance between the carbon and nitrogen content in the soil [7][8][9].…”
