We introduce new CosmoEJS modules to improve the investigation of the consequences of constraints on the parameter values of cosmological models. We use CosmoMC to fit dark energy models and modified gravity models to recent data from the cosmic microwave background measurements of the Planck satellite, baryon acoustic oscillations, supernovae type Ia, Hubble Parameter H(z) measurements, and redshift space distortions. While the results are in agreement with previous constraints for these models, here, we add an investigation into the dynamics of models with CosmoEJS , an interactive Java package of simulations that allow the user to explore the ramifications of choosing various values for the cosmological parameters of a particular model. We use the statistical fits attained with CosmoMC to choose the parameters for the models, and then, we visually inspect the plots of the simulated theoretical values for comparisons to the observational values, calculate derived cosmological values, and finally plot the expansion history of cosmological models. These new simulations now include modified gravity cosmological models as well as observations of the growth of structures of galaxies for a more accurate description of the universe's dynamics. A construção de um programa Python para o ensino da transfêrencia da órbita de Hohmann ResumenEn este estudio se presenta una simulación realizada en python como herramienta didáctica para la enseñanza de la mecánica celeste. El programa que hace la simulación se diseñó para que los estudiantes de cursos introductorios de astronomía visualicen las posibles trayectorias y comprendan las características principales de transferencias orbitales usando como ejemplo el viaje de una nave espacial de la Tierra a Marte y a Júpiter. Se encuentra que el programa también puede utilizarse para determinar las características principales de las órbitas planetarias y relacionar los parámetros de las elipses con la energía y el momentum angular de los planetas, y en general con las leyes de Kepler. The program that runs the simulation is designed for students to visualize all possible orbital trajectories, as well as to understand the transfer orbits' principal characteristics using as an example the journey of a space ship from Earth to Mars and Jupiter. Additionally, the program can be used to determine the principal characteristics of the planetary orbits. In addition, the program can relate elliptical parameters to energy and angular momentum of the planets, and to Kepler´s Laws.

A primary goal of many undergraduate-and graduate-level courses in the physical sciences is to prepare students to engage in scientific research, or to prepare students for careers that leverage skillsets similar to those used by research scientists. Even for students who may not intend to pursue a career with these characteristics, exposure to the context of applications in modern research can be a valuable tool for teaching and learning. However, a persistent barrier to student participation in research is familiarity with the technical language, format, and context that academic researchers use to communicate research methods and findings with each other: the literature of the field. Astrobites, an online web resource authored by graduate students, has published brief and accessible summaries of more than 1,300 articles from the astrophysical literature since its founding in 2010. This article presents three methods for introducing students at all levels within the formal higher education setting to approaches and results from modern research. For each method, we provide a sample lesson plan that integrates content and principles from Astrobites, including step-by-step instructions for instructors, suggestions for adapting the lesson to different class levels across the undergraduate and graduate spectrum, sample student handouts, and a grading rubric.
