Moderate hypofractionated helical tomotherapy for localized prostate cancer: preliminary report of an observational prospective study

Abstract: Objective: To report preliminary findings of a phase II study exploring the clinical outcomes of moderate hypofractionated radiotherapy performed with helical tomotherapy (HT) using computed tomography–magnetic resonance imaging–based planning for localized prostate cancer. Methods: The phase II prospective study received ethics approval from our institutional ethics committee. A dose of 60 Gy/20 fractions for low–intermediate risk prostate cancer by means of HT was explored. Primary endpoints of the study wer… Show more

“…Clinical experiences in PC RT by means of intensitymodulated and image-guided techniques (IMRT-IGRT) have demonstrated a lower probability of RT-related adverse events [4][5][6]. These RT-technological and technical advances have allowed clinicians to deliver higher radiation doses to the target with similarly limited toxicities.…”

“…PSA bounces have also been observed in patients treated with external beam radiotherapy alone. After IMRT, the occurrence rate of PSA bounces ranged 11%-32% [25,33,37,38]. Recently, SRT has been performed for the definitive treatment of prostate cancer, and PSA bounces were also observed after SRT.…”
