Models, Strategies, and Tools.

Abstract: This paper presents a case for careful consideration of theory in planning to implement evidence‐based practices into clinical care. As described, theory should be tightly linked to strategic planning through careful choice or creation of an implementation framework. Strategies should be linked to specific interventions and/or intervention components to be implemented, and the choice of tools should match the interventions and overall strategy, linking back to the original theory and framework. The thesis adva… Show more

“…The field of medical psychodiagnosis, which involves psychological reflections of problems, suffers from a lack of theorybased diagnostic tools (Fine, 2006). The present approach and findings support the suggestion that the unique combination of IIT and FM can provide both a theory and a set of measurement tools to the psychodiagnosis and assessment (see Sales, et al, 2006). Nevertheless, there should be a long way to go from the pre-preliminary stage of tool creation to the desired phase where a psychodiagnostic work, including the final integrative decision, will be based on a combination of scientific conception and methodology.…”

“…Realist evaluation is about theory-testing and refinement [21], whereby the evaluator assesses whether a programme is designed in such a way that it can achieve its intended outcomes and how it does so [22]. The initial programme theory guides the assessment of the effectiveness of the intervention and the consistency of the implementation [23]. The outcome of this process is a ‘generative theory’ of causation, whereby there is an interaction between the actors and the components of the intervention leading to a transformation (outcome) through causal powers (reasoning of the actors) [24].…”

“…Implementation studies have shown that interventions designed with a theoretical basis are more likely to be successful [42,43]. Therefore, we utilized several theory-based strategies to encourage provider uptake of the eCDSS and participant uptake of provider and/or pharmacist recommendations.…”
