Models of speed development in soccer

Abstract: Background: ‪The main objective of this research was to determine a model of the Speed Abilities Development Index (SADI) in selected teams of the top league, the first and the second league in Poland. The indirect aim was to determine the most significant predictors that have the greatest effect on development of this model. Material and methods: ‪The study examined a group of randomly selected 20 athletes (age 24 ± 3years) from four Polish premium league soccer teams, four teams of the first league and fo… Show more

“…However, our study yielded somewhat different results. One possible factor contributing to the improved COD among players could be attributed to the use of very small formats played on small pitches, which increases exposure to multivariate directions involving changes in direction, acceleration, and deceleration (Krosta et al, 2020). Although the enhancement in ability from these games could be linked to anticipatory skills for changing direction (Young and Rogers, 2014), the physical manifestation measured by COD deficit also showed improvement.…”

“…This allows moving in many directions, which is an obvious advantage due to the demands of team sports games [29,30]. In soccer, it will be decisive, especially in such technical activities as dribbling, winning a running duel, taking the ball away from the opponent, or performing an agility move that ends with a strike at the goal [31]. An additional attribute of the use of UNI exercises is the analysis of match units using GPS systems (Catapult) considering such variables as accelerations and decelerations.…”

“…This increase in time-motion research has improved our understanding of the global match demands ( Paul et al, 2015 ) and position-specific locomotor activity profiles ( Dalen et al, 2016 ; Suarez-Arrones et al, 2015 ). Most studies have described differences in the activity profile according to the player’s position and its relationship with match performance ( Di Salvo et al, 2007 ; Goncalves et al, 2014 ; Suarez-Arrones et al, 2015 ; Torreno et al, 2016 ; Krosta et al, 2020 ). As a result of these studies, it is known that central defenders (CD) cover less total distance during the game and less distance at a high-intensity sprint, while both central and wide-midfielders (MF and WM, respectively) run greater total distances.…”
