Models in Graphical User Interface Testing: Study Design

Abstract: Model-based GUI testing is an important concept in Software GUI testing. Manual testing is a time-consuming labor and heavily error-prone. It has several well-accepted models that Software Testing community has been working and contributing to them for many years. This paper reviews different models used in model-based GUI testing and presents a case study with a proposed approach for how to convert several well-accepted models to ESG (Event Sequence Graphs) to generate test cases and execute them with an aim … Show more

“…GUIs have proven to be more effective and user-friendly, especially for non-experts [25]- [27]. Although GUIs free the users from command memorization requirements, they are not entirely text-free and augment graphical components such as windows, icons, toolbars, wizards, ribbons, etc., with the text [28]. As argued in the previous section, the use of text in user interfaces may hamper certain individuals' ability to use information systems effectively.…”

“…In existing techniques, the GT tools are integrated with different Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) approaches to achieve GT based on TC generation [7,8]. The ML and DL models, including the Fuzzy Inference System (FIS), Long Short Term Memory (LSTM), and Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) are developed to perform GT [9]. However, these techniques struggle with complex features and samples [10].…”

“…In [31], [33], the authors use a very different modeling methodology than the current work using various node types for different GUI events. The advantages and disadvantages of these different models for GUI testing are elaborated in [49]. The main bottlenecks of the exploration-based solutions [41], [42] are unnecessary This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License.…”
