Models and tools for designing data-intensive web applications

Abstract: Data-intensive WEB applications, whose pages are automatically generated from large data sources, are becoming more and more relevant. Their design requires orthogonal abstractions, for the definition of the structure, derivation, navigation, composition, and presentation of WEB sites. While the abstractions for structure, derivation, and presentation of WEB sites are classical, those for navigation and composition are quite original. This talk will focus on the model which is used for navigation and compositi… Show more

“…Many approaches have been proposed to the problem of the design and the implementation of an adaptive Web based information system (Bickmore et al, 1999;Ceri et al, 2000;Ceri et al, 2003; KieBling, 2002; Leubner and Kie, 2002;Gu and Helal, 2004;Pastor et al, 2003;Schwabe et al, 1996). However, they are often specific solutions, suited only for predefined adaptation requirements (usually device characteristics and user preferences) and hardly reusable for adding new adaptation functionality to existing systems.…”

“…We introduce a model-transformation framework for test cases, and a prototype implementation of this framework that relies on concrete modeling languages: the CIM level consists of BPMN models [27], which express the multiactor processes served by the application; at the PIM level, we use a specific Web application DSL, WebML [10], which expresses the data, business logic and front-end interface of the Web/SOA application that supports the business processes specified at the CIM level. The CIM to PIM to PSM transformation is provided by a commercial tool suite, called WebRatio [3].…”
