Modelling vehicles acceleration during overtaking manoeuvres

Abstract: Overtaking manoeuvre is a key issue for two-lane rural roads. These roads should provide sufficient overtaking sight distance (OSD) at certain locations to allow faster vehicles to pass slower ones. However, overtaking requires occupying the opposing lane, which represents a serious safety concern. Severity of overtaking related crashes is very high, compared with other manoeuvres. The development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for overtaking is being a complex task. Only few systems have been de… Show more

“…1 The key problem for multiple targets tracking is distinguishing between measured values resulted from a specific target and measured values caused by other radar target echoes or inference. 2 The Doppler measurements are employed in couple with the target range information as supplementary state information, which is used to overcome this problem of recognizing rangeoverlapped targets. Literature 3 puts forward an advanced joint probabilistic data association ( JPDA) scheme, which utilizes Doppler measurements along with range measurements through a nonlinear programming method.…”

“…To observe the maximum possible entry speed at which a vehicle should brake and turn on a curved road, Angelis et al [43] and Funke and Gerdes [44] proposed prediction methods for emergency lane-change manoeuvres. Llorca et al [45] calibrated accelerate kinematic trajectory models of overtaking vehicles on the opposing lane, based on statistical data of drivers' field experiment.…”
