Modelling the strategies for improving maturity and resilience in medical oxygen supply chain through digital technologies

Abstract: Purpose Improving the medical oxygen supply chain (MOSC) is important to cope with the uneven demand and supply seen in the MOSC when India faced the second wave of COVID-19. This improvisation increases the supply chain (SC) maturity and consequently the efficiency and resiliency to tackle oxygen shortage across the country and to prevent another similar scenario from ever happening. The purpose of this study is to identify and prioritize the solutions to overcome the issues faced by the MOSC during the secon… Show more

“…Vertical integration refers to the consolidation of two or more tiers within the supply chain (KEK et al, 2022), whether they are suppliers or distributors (Shraah, Abu-Rumman, Alqhaiwi, & Alsha'ar, 2022), executed within a single business group (Ellram, 1991). This movement shortens supply chain tiers, coordinating them within the same business group, indicating the extent to which manufacturing is carried out within the same firm (Olausson & Magnusson, 2011).…”

“…While there are three conditions that can increase transaction costs (uncertainty, frequency and asset specificity), it is important to consider the combination of these with production costs. Vertical integration helps in simplifying communication, having real-time data, faster allocation of resources and costsby eliminating unnecessary factors (KEK et al, 2022). Such emphasis is given to asset specificity because it is the most consistently verified influence in empirical tests of the TCE.…”
