Modelling the relationship between business cycles and office location

Abstract: PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to create a model of FM and location variables in the dimensions of location and recessions.Design/methodology/approachThe approach is based on statistical analysis and quantitative methodology.FindingsSignificant differences and correlations argue for four settings with different features, first, in the dimension of single or multiple site locations, and second, the dimension in low and high growth of GDP, here termed “recession” and “boom”, respectively.Research limitation… Show more

“…These observations lead to the conclusion that FM of the manufacturing sector is as relevant as in other sectors or, indeed, even more. Studies of Dettwiler (2008) reveal correlations on the same data between the dynamics of single‐ or multiple‐site location and GDP fluctuations. The propensity to change from a single site to multiple sites is thus rather high and argues for further investigation of the features of these two extremes of location settings.…”
