Modelling the Helicopter Rotor Aerodynamics at Forward Flight With Free Wake Model and Urans Method

Abstract: The presented work is dedicated to the numerical study of the aerodynamic characteristics of the helicopter rotor. Two approaches to modeling of the rotor are applied: the free wake model developed by the Authors with using steady airfoil characteristics and the Unsteady RANS method based on the Ansys Fluent software. The modes of hovering and horizontal flight in the range of advancing ratio μ = (0-0.45) are considered. The shapes of the rotor wake, the distributions of the normal force coefficient and the fi… Show more

“…Supply of pump test sample is determined by weight method by the change in the indication of the scales (8). The pressure in the delivery line ( 13) is controlled with the valve (14). The laboratory bench works as follows: the power pump (1), with the possibility of changing the rotation speed through variable speed drive (13), supplies working fluid from the tank (12) to the nozzle (5).…”

“…As the research result shows, in the range of values μ = 0.05-0.1, these "supervortexes" have the highest power. This issue has been previously investigated by the authors (Ignatkin et al, 2018) [2], 2020 [3]). The main rotor wake has an even more complex structure at low speeds (or in hover under wind conditions) in ground effect.…”

“…In this regard, research of gas-dynamic and hydrodynamic processes in channels with mesh structure can be fully attributed to the number of relevant works. In aviation engineering, many problems regarding selecting the optimal geometry for solid walls in the gas flow at different flowing regimes, at high speeds [15,16] and low speeds, have been solved [17,18].…”
