“…The LEPTS code has been described in detail elsewhere 36 and so only a brief description is given here. Briefly, the programme is based on critically selected experimental and theoretical input data previously compiled for each target molecule, in this particular case for water and pyrimidine.…”

“…While tracking an incident particle throughout the energy deposition process, elastic collisions and different types of inelastic interactions are distinguished and modelled according to the underlying input data. As such, for each collisional event, the programme samples the scattering angle and the particle's energy loss specifically according to the corresponding distribution functions, 36 which are the differential cross section (DCS) data and the energy loss spectra. The programme is also capable of providing an efficient response if an ionisation event takes place.…”

“…Force spectroscopy is relatively insensitive to local substrate irregularities, since measurements are taken over an area determined by the diameter of the tip (i.e.,30-50 nm). Furthermore, for the experimental determination of LEE CSs at higher energies (i.e., 500 eV -10 keV), DNA film thicknesses must be in the range of 50 nm to few microns to account for the longer electron penetration distances (or lower total scattering CSs [29]). In this case, force spectroscopy, which has virtually no upper limit for thickness measurement, provides a significant advantage.…”

“…In recent years there have been many studies on positron stopping power and its applications. [5][6][7][8] We obtained, in a previous study 9 the SP formula for intermediate energy electrons, by using the generalized oscillator strength (GOS) model. Stopping power Calculations for positrons have not been studied as much, though their tracks in matter are frequently assumed to be similar to those of electrons.…”
