Modelling Enhancement of Team Emotional Intelligence

Abstract: This article aims to review the concept of team emotional intelligence (TEI) and propose a conceptual model for its enhancement. It seeks to analyze the past literature on TEI and attempts to identify and derive a relationship between different variables that influence it. The technique of interpretive structural modelling (ISM) has been used to identify the strongest and weakest drivers of TEI. The relationship between the individual- and team-level variables was established to develop a theoretical model for… Show more

“…As noted by the empirical results team culture is verified to have an indirect and positive influence on team performance via the mediation of knowledge sharing and team emotional intelligence. “…Though a growing strand of literature has investigated various factors influencing team performance, the earlier investigations have not yet examined the direct and the indirect effects of knowledge sharing and team emotional intelligence on team performance. Research scholars (Jamshed, 2018; Jamshed et al , 2017; Jayasingam et al , 2013; Kaur et al , 2016; Shin et al , 2016) have recommended studying the intervening influence of knowledge sharing and team emotional intelligence on the relationship between team culture and team performance. The purpose of this study is threefold: first, this study attempts to explore the influence of team culture on team performance as very few studies have investigated the influence of cultural factors on medical and paramedical teams working in health-care institutions; second, to investigate the mediating effects of knowledge sharing and team emotional intelligence on the relationship between team culture and team performance as the cultural factors induce team members to share knowledge and develops emotional intelligence skill at team level ultimately affecting team performance; and third, to explore how well the factors of knowledge sharing and team emotional intelligence are synchronized amongst team members within teams.…”

“…There are several previous studies suggesting that communication and respect are very important in leadership decision-making and emotional intelligence (Kaur et al , 2016; Kemp, 2005; Lees-Marshment, 2016). This implies that local government organizations would benefit from working together to address conflict, talking out their issues.…”

“…Krishnakumar and Rymph (2012) found that increased negative emotions decreased ethical decision-making and the stronger the emotions were, the more effective emotional intelligence was at mitigating the emotional response. Emotional intelligence has been found to strengthen effective team building, enhance group decision-making and performance and increase learning (Cole et al , 2016; Ghuman, 2016; Kaur et al , 2016). This research study supported previous studies on the importance of emotions and their impacts on decision-making and how emotional intelligence can minimize personal bias by recognizing emotions for each elected local government representative.…”

Thus, team culture is a contributing factor and a crucial ambient to suppress turnover intentions.…”
