Modelling a Series of Non-Aqueous Field Scale Inhibitor Squeeze Treatments in the Heidrun field

Abstract: When a conventional aqueous squeeze treatment is not suitable for preventing scale formation, a non-aqueous treatment may be applied. Generally, this type of treatments includes a non-aqueous phase and can be divided into different types based on the delivery system. Despite the name, most non-aqueous treatments still contain some water, due to the scale inhibitor hydrophilic nature; it only truly dissolves in water. The main purposes of this paper are, firstly to model a series of polymer non-aqueous scale inh… Show more

“…Squeezing is a well-established procedure in onshore and offshore oil production facilities (King et al, 1991;Mackay et al, 1998;Meters et al, 1985;Poynton et al, 2004;Bourne et al, 2000;Lopez et al, 2005;Vazquez et al, 2009Vazquez et al, , 2011Vazquez et al, , 2012. It comprises the injection of SI, normally as an aqueous solution, usually preceded by a smaller preflush, and followed by a larger overflush stage; finally, there will often be a shut-in stage, usually lasting from 6 to 24 hours.…”

“…The model considers one dimensional two-phase flow transport in radial coordinates (Vazquez et al, 2012). The model has been extensively used to simulate squeeze treatments in the field (Bogaert et al, 2007;Vazquez et al, 2011;Mackay and Jordan, 2003;Patterson et al, 2013;Jordan, 2013). Since the model is one-dimensional the SI propagation is radially around the wellbore, therefore it is necessary to evaluate how deep the SI propagates into the matrix to account fully the wormholing effect on the squeeze treatment lifetime.…”
