Besides the state variables usually available for measurement, such as temperature, pressure etc., the rate of heat production is a meaningful and fully accessible quantity to be measured for the model‐supported determination of the state of a chemical process. In the present study, the author describes the on‐line determination of the heat production rate within a stirred tank reactor by means of an appropriately designed calorimeter sensor and the results yielded by this measuring system for homogenous and heterogeneous reaction mixtures.
