Modeling two-stage failure mechanism of cascading in cyber-physical power systems

Abstract: Interdependency in cyber-physical power systems enables efficient monitor and control, but also brings out many threats, leading to catastrophic blackouts. To address this problem, the propagation mechanism of cascading failure in systems is analyzed. In this paper, we propose the partial random coupling systems model, and detail the interactive mechanism between physical power grid and communication network. Then, the modified failure mechanism is present, including two-stage redistribution types of traffic l… Show more

“…However, unavailability to state of few components in physical power grid makes systems evaluation imprecise and may even result in wrong decisionmaking. To reach real-time monitor and control, more advanced information and communication technologies are applied into physical power grid, thus the physical power grid is evolving into cyber-physical power systems [1][2][3][4][5].…”

To reach real-time monitor and control, more advanced information and communication technologies are applied into physical power grid, thus the physical power grid is evolving into cyber-physical power systems [1][2][3][4][5].In this paper, cyber-physical power systems considered are composed of physical power grid and communication network. On the one hand, physical power grid continuously provides power energy to communication network for run.…”
