Modeling transportation routes of the pick-up system using location problem: a case study

Abstract: In today’s increasingly globalizing world, the demand for the transport of more and more specific kinds of goods is constantly growing. Greater diversity of the objects of transport extends the range of consignees and consignors, which implies the reduction of the number and volume of consignments. Modern enterprises are no longer interested in mass supplies of large quantities of the same material but strive for flexible supplies of smaller quantities of specific materials out of more suppliers. This manuscri… Show more

“…Faster and more efficient transportation of goods from the consignor to the consignee can be facilitated by use of the modern transport technologies and promising energy-efficient technical solutions [5][6][7][8]. Ensuring the safety of the transport process is no less important [9][10][11][12].…”

“…The first was because certain workers (such as health workers or those employed by the providers of essential products or services) continued to go to work and continued to drive on the roads. A second reason was logistics and distribution, which required an increase in the door-to-door distribution to tackle online shopping's exponential growth [10,11]. The third reason was that there was a move away from public transport to the use of private cars in the majority of cases.…”

“…As [15] referred to, case studies are helpful to introduce new theory based on empirical data. The case study method is used in many scientific works concerning the transport sector, for example [11][12][13]16,17].…”
