Modeling Tidal Current on Banten Bay During Transitional Monsoons

Abstract: Hydrodynamical condition of Java sea as a part of Indian-Pacific throughflow system which is influenced by monsoon will affect the condition of Banten bay such tidal current. Bordered by Java sea makes Banten bay preoccupied with fisheries and shipping activities, so the information of current pattern e.g. tidal current is very necessary. This study aims to simulate the tidal current pattern using flow model fm as a numerical approach. Two-dimensional hydrodynamic model was employed to perform the simulation o… Show more

“…During the neap tidal condition, the flow velocity is mostly weaker than spring condition because of the moon, sun, and earth gravity forces which are upright resulting in the weakened current generation (Bayhaqi et al, 2018;Lazure et al, 2009;Van Rijn, 2011). The long tidal wave from the deeper ocean will propagate and release the energy in the shallower waters, resulting in the tidal dominated coastal.…”

“…The rotation is reiterated according to the tidal type which will move in and out of the bay. This strongly influences turbulence, mixing, and water mass dynamic as well (Bayhaqi et al, 2018).…”

“…The pattern of tidal current can determine the transport mechanism within the bay that sediment transport in the form of suspended material may influence the waters. The tidal-wave circulations may trigger the stronger turbulence and mixing in the bottom (Li and Zhong, 2009;Bayhaqi et al, 2018). The semi-enclosed water area of Sabang Bay has a role in controlling the transport mechanism that is weaker within the bay due to the topographical regime (Newton et al, 2014).…”

“…The model validation was created by comparing the model result and field measurement data (Bayhaqi et al, 2018;Lazure et al, 2009;Wisha et al, 2016) in which parameters validated are surface elevation, zonal (u) and meridional (v) component of currents. From those comparisons, we obtained RMSE values that represent the bias data resulted from the model simulation.…”
