Modeling the separation performance of depth filter considering tomographic data

Abstract: Fibrous depth filters are frequently used for the purification of gas streams with low dust loadings, as well as processes where a high initial filtration efficiency is required (e.g., clean rooms for aseptic production). One tool suitable for supporting the development of optimized filter media is the use of numerical simulations. The drawback of this technique is the high computational resources required. In this work, a new and fast approach based on a one-dimensional model was applied. Structural character… Show more

“…The auxetic structural behavior measured by the conventional tensile testing machine illustrated a large deformation discrepancy between the upper as well as the lower rows and the middle three rows of the honeycombs. To achieve quantitative data for the analysis, in-situ CT tests with a combination of digital image correlation (DIC) are preferred, which allows for the calculation of the local displacement/strain maps [ 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ]. A more detailed presentation of the CT test and DIC technique is shown in [ 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ].…”

“…Thereupon, no change or adaptation of the CT measurement software is necessary. For the analysis of the samples, the XRadia 520 X-ray microscope from Zeiss [51][52][53][54], which allows a resolution of less than 1 µm, was used in addition to the µCT system. One sample was firstly loaded in tension with a conventional traction machine until it broke.…”
