Modeling the Nexus Between Sustainable Development and Renewable Energy: The African Perspectives

Abstract: Motivated by the gained momentum of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) under the umbrella of the United Nations organization, in the light of the SDG-7, which stipulates the access to affordable, sustainable, and modern energy, this paper explores the dynamic relationship between renewable energy and the pillars of sustainable development. Its insights are driven using a simultaneous equation model based on a panel of 25 African economies covering the period 1990-2014. The results show that renewable ene… Show more

“…In addition, this confirms that renewable energy consumption is an authentic tool to curb environmental deterioration and the threat associated with climate change in China. This finding corroborates the earlier findings of Tiba and Belaid (2021). Fossil fuels dominate the energy mix in China, and these energy sources increase at a higher pace.…”

“…As far as we know, the circular economy is not used to explain the CO 2 emissions performance of countries. These works recognize that the consumption of renewable energies contributes to the reduction of CO 2 emissions (Belaïd, Youssef, 2017;Belaïd, Zrelli, 2019;Tiba, Belaid, 2020). For the rest of the factors presented above, there is no consensus regarding their effect on CO 2 emissions.…”

“…Affordable and clean energy is directly related to other SDGs [196]. Energy production enhancement, energy efficiency [197,198], alternative energy resources [199], modern and renewable energy [200], clean cooking [201,202], energy cost [203], and zero-carbon energy and greenhouse gasses [204] are just a few highlights of the SDG-7 literature.…”
