Modeling the kinetics of essential oil hydrodistillation from Vietnamese ginger (Zingiber officinale)

Abstract: Zingiber officinale is a frequently used herb and food flavouring agent, commonly known as ginger. Z. officinale belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, comprising of more than 1200 species [1]. In traditional therapeutic systems, Z. officinale is known for its various medicinal properties that give rise to the ability to cure a variety of diseases. Ginger oil is a potential commodity, but the extraction of these oils takes a long time to produce good quality essential oils. Thus, optimization work is required in… Show more

“…The process was evaluated using kinetic modeling to analyze the varying conditions that impact it. Kinetic modeling serves the dual purpose of enhancing comprehension of the process and improving process control and verification [17,18,19]. The pace of ethanol reduction in the distillation tank can be determined by evaluating the ethanol yield produced from the distillate during a specific sampling time interval.…”

“…In the batch desorption system, models describing the solubility of the essential oil from the surface and diffusing the essential oil within the materials were developed to explain the desorption kinetics of the extraction process. The pseudo-first model with nonlinear regression is widely used with high compatibility to explain the mechanism of the process in solid-liquid interaction [14,15,19,20].…”
