Modeling the Convergence of Collaborative Systems of Systems: A Quantitative Case Study

Abstract: A "system of systems" (SoSs) provides functionality beyond that offered by its constituent systems. The functionality emerges over time, and there is a need to predict and affect the system's convergence toward the desired functionality. The convergence of a collaborative SoS is dependent on political, economic, societal, and technological (PEST) factors. In this paper, the authors propose a model for predicting and analyzing the convergence of SoSs. We use the United States smart grid, a collaborative SoS, to… Show more

“…26 Starting with the USS VIRGINIA, as a result of political, economic and performance considerations these independent systems were converged into the SWFTS SoS. 27 During this convergence both the SoS as a whole and many of the constituent systems have incorporated open systems architecture principles and business practices. 28 In the SoS taxonomy, 13 SWFTS is an Acknowledged SoS.…”

“…Roadmaps connect an organizations’ vision, values, and objectives with concrete actions that can be taken to ensure their fulfillment (Geum and Park, 2012). According to Collins et al (2017), roadmaps have a positive influence on technology implementation, while Ghazisaeidi et al (2014) and Safdari et al (2015) believed them to be of critical importance. Thus, this study proposed the following hypothesis:…”
