Introduction A hydraulic power injection machine is designed to use a driving screw to inject melted plastic into a specified mold. This machine can be found at an automotive spare parts factory. The cantilever-style heavy-duty screw injector is supported by one roller and secured at the end. An obvious need for vibration analysis on the roller support is essential. A mass spring damper model is proposed for deeply investigating the friction induced vibration mechanism for this injection system to well understand and analyze its vibration behavior. Purpose A mechanical mode of two degrees-of-freedom (DOF) is designed to improve research on the dynamic features of the Plastic Hydraulic Injection System (PHIS) mechanism. Materials and methods Experimental investigation and analysis of this mechanism are explored to obtain the instability speed and critical stick slip (SS) speed. The numerical imitation results of this work will help with the design and development of the PHIS mechanism. Conclusion The stability of the system and SS behavior are next examined by determining the critical variability speediness and critical SS speed. A simulation study is carried out to evaluate the effect of various parameters of the system on its stability and on the behavior of the SS motion.

To accurately describe the characteristics of a signal, the feature parameters in time domain and frequency domain are usually extracted for characterization. However, the total number of feature parameters in time domain and frequency domain exceeds twenty, and all of the feature parameters are used for feature extraction, which will result in a large amount of data processing. For the purpose of using fewer feature parameters to accurately reflect the characteristics of the vibration signal, a simple but effective vibration feature extraction method combining time-domain dimensional parameters (TDDP) and Mahalanobis distance (MD) is proposed, i.e., TDDP-MD. In this method, ten time-domain dimensional parameters are selected to extract fault features, and the distance evaluation technique based on Mahalanobis distance criterion function is also introduced to calculate the feature vector, which can be used to classify different failure types. Finally, the proposed method is applied to fault diagnosis of rolling element bearings, and experimental analysis results show that the proposed method can recognize different failure types accurately and effectively with only ten time-domain dimensional parameters and a small quantity of training samples.

Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is an effective method for analyzing nonlinear and non-stationary signals. However, it can be found that there are two problems in this method. One problem is that it may lead to unnecessary redundant decompositions and bring interferences to the results of the analysis. Moreover, unnecessary decompositions may increase the computational time of the EMD algorithm. Another problem is that a signal belongs to the same one of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) may be decomposed into other IMF components in EMD method. In order to determine the reasonable number of IMFs and reconstruct the signal belongs to the same IMF, an improved method of empirical mode decomposition based on correlation analysis is proposed in this paper. In this method, a simple but effective stopping criterion was proposed to reduce the number of decompositions and remove undesirable redundant decompositions. In order to avoid over decomposition, we reconstruct the signal belongs to the same IMF by using correlation analysis. Finally, the method we proposed is contrasted with the EMD method by analyzing simulation and real signals. The experimental results indicate that our method is very effective in removing redundant IMFs and the running time of our method is reduced by about 70% compared with EMD method. Meanwhile, a similar or better decomposition results can be obtained compared with the EMD method.
