Modeling on heat and mass transfer in stored wheat during forced cooling ventilation

Abstract: A mathematical model based on the theory of heat and mass transfer in porous media was developed to simulate the evolution of grain temperature and moisture content in a wheat storage bin during ventilation with cooling air at the constant temperature and humidity. Unlike the previous works on this aspect, the present work was not focused on cooling the stored grain by ventilation with ambient air, but with the refrigerated air. Validation was performed by comparing between predicted and measured grain tempera… Show more

“…Thirdly, ventilation is another feasible method to limit the fungal growth and reduce the risks caused by high moisture content. 39 It was reported that ventilation can accelerate the air low in storage facilities and hinder the fast growth of fungi and insects. 40 In most cases, the internal circulation ventilation is integrated with the utilization of fumigation as an effective way to kill fungi and insects in the grain bulk.…”

“…To better understand and optimize the process of drying, simulation studies of heat and moisture transfer are needed. In recent years, the application of numerical simulation methods to describe heat and mass transfer has been limited to two-dimensional (2D) (Thorpe, 2008;Wang et al, 2010Wang et al, , 2021 and three-dimensional (3D) single-particle models (Ateeque et al, 2014;Montanuci et al, 2014;Prakash et al, 2011;Wu et al, 2004).…”
